Evaluation of Rheumatoid Arthritis Information Providing Web Sites on the Internet

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose: This study tried to show the basic direction in developing health information web sites by analyzing and evaluating the recent internet information about rheumatic arthritis.
methods: From April 5th to July 5th in 2004, through domestic search engines, 148 sites of general/university hospitals were included in the 1st analysis. Through the same search engines, 11 web sites were selected by searching ‘rheumatoid arthritis’ and secondly analyzed by using tools of Kim Jung-Eun etc(2003).
Results: In the 148 web sites of general/university hospitals, there were 64 web sites(43.9%) providing health information of rheumatoid arthritis, 60 sites(40.5%) notice-boards, 107 sites(73.6%) manager e-mails, 115 sites(79.1%) site maps, 136 sites(92.6%) search function and 106 sites(71.6%) customer service corners. 2nd analysis result of 11 web sites providing health information about rheumatoid arthritis shows high grades in 2 purposeful items(clarified purpose 100%, clarified object 100%) and 2 reliability items(support organization report 90.9%, support organization contact list 100%) but low grades in source of references(36.4%), site maps/outlines(45.5%), how-to-use/help(18.2%).
Conclusion: From this result, health information of internet web sites about rheumatoid arthritis seems to be not enough quantitatively and qualitatively. Especially it is needed to raise information quality and supplement reference sources etc. to get reliability of health information users.
